Religious cultural heritage represents one of humanity’s richest legacies, encompassing sacred architecture, archaeological sites, monuments, artworks, manuscripts, musical heritage, and living traditions. Rapid advances in Heritage Informatics—including non-invasive diagnostics, digital documentation, artificial intelligence, digital twins, remote sensing, and heritage information systems—are transforming the ways cultural assets are documented, analysed, conserved, and sustainably valorized.

This special issue invites original, high-quality interdisciplinary research that advances the protection, management, documentation, conservation, visualization, and digital transformation of religious cultural heritage through innovative informatics approaches.

Published by the Centre for Informatics Research and Development (CIRD), India, Informatics Studies is a peer-reviewed quarterly journal dedicated to advancing Information Science through interdisciplinary research and innovative applications. The journal welcomes contributions from researchers working at the intersection of heritage, information science, digital technologies, artificial intelligence, and related disciplines, covering, but not limited to:

Heritage Science & Diagnostics: Non-invasive diagnostics, Raman spectroscopy, XRF, FTIR, OCT, structural health monitoring, materials characterization, and conservation science.

Digital Documentation: LiDAR, laser scanning, photogrammetry, UAV mapping, Heritage Building Information Modelling (HBIM), digital twins, 3D reconstruction, and digital recording technologies.

Artificial Intelligence & Heritage Informatics: Artificial intelligence, machine learning, computer vision, heritage information systems, knowledge organization and ontologies, digital repositories, knowledge management, linked open data, and multilingual resource discovery.

Digital Heritage Technologies: Virtual and augmented reality, digital archives, digital libraries, immersive technologies, digital storytelling, and virtual heritage.

Conservation & Sustainable Valorization: Preventive conservation, restoration science, heritage risk assessment, climate change adaptation, community participation, heritage management, and sustainable valorization.

Religious Cultural Heritage: Churches, temples, shrines, synagogues, mosques, monasteries, sacred landscapes, sacred sites, historic musical instruments, sacred art and manuscripts, religious tourism, and other tangible and intangible religious heritage.
